The AIMPGN, Associazione Italiana Medicina per la Prevenzione della Guerra Nucleare, Italian Affiliate of IPPNW, developed its action continuing its activity towards the global authoritative movement “Mayors for Peace”, and cooperating with the italian branch of IPB. As well for many years in the past, AIMPGN gave its support of ideas and cooperation to the Secretariat of Summits of Nobel Peace Prized Laureates, organized in Italy, Rome.
Particularly, after beeing official member of the global delegation of Mayors for Peace at the PrepComm for the NPT Review Conference (UN, Geneva, 2008), AIMPGN continued its activity in this field organizing with the italian branch of IPB the International Conference “Peace is in our hands”, helded in Sicily, Mazzarino, on november, 27th, 2009, putting together Mayors for Peace from Italy, Iraq and Iran, and building the base for an international initiative of mediation towards Iran and the matter of iranian nuclear programme. In this sense the Working Meeting of the Secretariat of Summits decided last april in Rome to use the next Summit in Hiroshima (november, 9th, 2010) to try to organize a meeting with the presence of Iranian Mayors for Peace, in the perspective of a peaceful solution of the iranian international crisis, as well as a natural development of the international activity started at the International Conference “Peace is in our hands”, having as objective the verifiable iranian renunce to the development of nuclear weapons and contemporarily the reconossaince of the iranian right to develop nuclear energy for civil pourposes. Having the goal of the building of this initiative AIMPGN is working with the Mediterranean Commmission of IPPNW to make possible even at the IPPNW World Congress in Basel a meeting with Iranians medical doctors and Mayors for Peace to continue the common debate opened in Italy, Sicily, at the International Conference “Peace is in our hands”.
